On April 4th, 2025, we had the honor of participating in the one-day youth development training orientation hosted by SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria at the Local Government Staff Training School in Ibadan, Oyo State. This enriching event brought together over 225 enthusiastic participants eager to embark on the journey of self-improvement and entrepreneurial success. As the KRP Foundation for Education and Migration Awareness (KRP FEMA), we are privileged to be an implementing partner for the entrepreneurship trajectory of this impactful program.

An Engaging Start
The event kicked off with registration and confirmation of attendance, setting a positive tone for the day. SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria extended a warm welcome address, introducing partners and stakeholders who have played vital roles in making this program a reality since its inception. Key community leaders and government officials attended, demonstrating the collaborative spirit that underpins this initiative.

During the introductions, SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria provided a brief overview of their mission and vision. They articulated the important role of this youth development project, noting that it aims to enhance the skills and capabilities of Nigerian youth, helping them to thrive in a competitive job market and entrepreneurial landscape.

Inspirational Voices
The orientation included motivational speeches from various special guests who emphasized the importance of resilience, learning, and adaptability. These inspirational talks resonated deeply with the participants, reminding them to embrace the opportunity for personal growth and to approach their training with an open mind and a strong commitment to success.

One of the most transformative segments of the orientation was the Success Stories session, which featured past beneficiaries of the program. Toni Arolowa, a proud member of Cohort 1, shared her inspiring story of entrepreneurship. Toni produces household cleaning agents and successfully rebranded her product, establishing a strong online presence. She detailed how she leveraged modern technologies for efficient record-keeping and secured various grants that helped expand her business. Her heartfelt gratitude towards KRP FEMA and SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria left a lasting impact on the audience, proving the effectiveness of the program in fostering real-world success.

Training Trajectories: Tailored for Success
The program offers two distinct training paths designed to cater to the unique needs of participants:
1. Employability Trajectory (Led by Romans Page)
This track aims to equip recent graduates from universities and colleges with essential job skills. The focus is on developing competencies that enhance employability, ensuring that participants are not only qualified but also prepared for productive roles in the workforce. Skills training will cover critical areas such as resume writing, interview techniques, and workplace dynamics.
2. Entrepreneurship Trajectory (Led by KRP FEMA)
As KRP FEMA, we are thrilled to lead the entrepreneurship program, designed to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Our training utilizes the ICSS approach:
- Inspire: Participants learn to create impactful CVs that effectively highlight their skills and experiences.
- Create: This phase supports budding entrepreneurs who are in the early stages of starting their businesses (less than three months).
- Start: Focused on existing businesses that have been operational for 1-3 years, this stage provides strategies for growth and improvement.
- Scale: Tailored for established businesses that have been running for 3-5 years, this segment offers advanced strategies for scaling operations and increasing market share.
This structured program allows us to assess each entrepreneur’s background and experience, enabling us to tailor our training to their specific needs effectively.

Comprehensive Skills Development
The entrepreneurship program is set to run for six months, commencing with two weeks of intensive training. Participants will benefit from continuous mentorship and coaching—critical components designed to ensure the successful implementation of what they have learned. The curriculum is robust, covering skills such as:
- Digital Literacy: Understanding the digital landscape, utilizing online tools, and managing social media effectively.
- Financial Management: Insights into budgeting, forecasting, and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Business Growth Strategies: Techniques for scaling businesses sustainably and reaching new markets.
- Customer Relationship Management: Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients and customers.
Participants will leave the program not only with valuable skills but also with a supportive network and a clearer vision of their business futures.

Looking Forward: Next Steps
As the orientation came to a close, a brief Q&A session allowed participants to clarify their doubts and express their excitement for the upcoming training. The comments shared underscored the eagerness among participants, who are poised to leverage this opportunity for their personal and professional development.

With the official training scheduled to commence on April 7th, 2025, we at KRP FEMA are fully prepared and excited to embark on this transformative journey with our passionate participants. We are dedicated to fostering a new generation of skilled entrepreneurs and employable youths ready to make a mark in Nigeria’s economy.
